Freelance Healthcare Writer
Sixfold is seeking a freelance writer to join our content bench on an ongoing basis. We support long-form thought leadership and newsletter programs, sales collateral, sell sheets, sales decks and case studies for clients in pharmacy benefits, payment integrity and adjacent healthcare spaces.
We're looking for someone with excellent written communication skills who can take a technical, often regulation-heavy subject and make it clear, credible and genuinely engaging — not flattened into generic marketing language, and not just competent trade-press summary either. You'll need to be comfortable interviewing subject matter experts and turning a conversation into a piece of content with a real, human point of view.
You should have real fluency in U.S. healthcare: PBMs, pharmacy benefit navigation, TPAs, rebates, network strategy, payment integrity, health plan operations, patient affordability, benefits administration, captives, concierge healthcare and healthcare technology all show up in our client work, and the more of that world you already speak, the less ramp-up any given assignment needs. Prior agency experience and comfort with legal or compliance review cycles are strong pluses.
About the role
You'll work alongside our content and strategy team on assignments that come in a couple of different forms. Some start with a transcript, a recorded SME interview or a client stakeholder conversation, and you'll be expected to find the argument inside the material and write toward it. Others come with a detailed brief and notes already pulled together by our team, and you'll be working from that source material to shape the piece. Either way, the goal is the same: source material becomes a piece of content with a real point of view, not a rearrangement of the notes.
The volume and mix vary month to month, but expect a steady, ongoing flow of work rather than a single project with a defined end. This is a fully remote position and we're open to candidates anywhere in the U.S. We'll start with a trial assignment and go from there before discussing an ongoing cadence.
Responsibilities
Assignments will include:
- Long-form articles and newsletter content built from recorded SME interviews, usually running 800–900 words
- Sell sheets and capabilities collateral for partner and broker audiences
- Sales deck copy that has to move a sophisticated buyer through a real argument, not just describe a feature list
- Case studies structured around a business challenge, the insight that changed the direction, and what actually resulted — positioning assets, not portfolio summaries
- Website and web copy
- Social media content
- Other formats as they come up
Requirements
Skills & qualifications
- Excellent written English and communication skills, with range across long-form narrative, sales copy and executive-voice writing
- Experience interviewing subject matter experts and converting a transcript into a structured, engaging draft
- Meticulous attention to detail, especially around claims that need to hold up under legal or compliance review
- Ability to simplify complex, technical or regulatory material without flattening the nuance that makes it credible
- Comfort working independently against deadlines, with a revision process that involves multiple stakeholders
- A real point of view — writing built to say something, not just summarize industry commentary
- A creative, emotionally resonant voice: someone who can bring real energy to healthcare topics most writers leave flat, and make our clients' work feel as compelling as it actually is
- Working understanding of SEO and AEO (answer engine optimization — how content gets surfaced and cited by AI tools), and how to write for search and social distribution without hollowing out the writing to chase it
Required
- Demonstrated writing experience in U.S. healthcare, ideally touching pharmacy and healthcare benefits, PBMs, TPAs, payment integrity or health plan operations
- A portfolio of writing samples that shows range beyond a single format — not just blog posts
How to apply
Please include the following with your application:
- Resume or CV
- A short note on your experience with U.S. health and pharmacy benefits content
- Three to four writing samples that show range across long-form and sales/marketing formats — case studies, sell sheets or deck copy are especially relevant
- Your target rate structure, so we can confirm fit before the trial piece
For hourly engagements, we set a maximum hour cap per assignment up front so scope and cost stay predictable on both sides.
